Winslow — The Medomak Valley baseball and softball teams wrapped up their respective regular seasons on Tuesday, June 3 as the Panthers traveled Winslow to face the host Black Raiders.
The Panther squads came up on the losing end, in competitive affairs, as the softball team fell 7-5 and the baseball team 3-2.
While unofficial, the Panther softball team should qualify for the upcoming Eastern Class B playoffs, while the baseball team will not.
The following is a recap of both June 3 contests:
Winslow 7, Medomak Valley 5
At Winslow June 3, the Black Raiders plated several runs in the early innings and picked up their 11th win of the campaign. Medomak Valley scored one in the second and sixth innings and three in the fifth, while Winslow scored one in the first and sixth innings, three in the second and two in the third.
Hannah Marks pitched for the visitors, allowing five hits and five walks, with five strikeouts. Hillary Libby and Hannah Doble pitched for the hosts, allowing five hits and seven walks, with 14 strikeouts.
Leading the Panthers at the dish were Vanessa Rancourt (2 singles), Lauren Guptill (single), Marks (single) and Maggie Cox (single).
For Winslow, Jenna Petrovic (triple), Paige Veilleux (single), Brooke Haskell (single), Doble (single) and Liz Pullen (single) paced the offense.
The game between the Panthers and Black Raiders could happen again in the coming days in a possible regional prelim playoff.
In the Maine Principals' Association Heal Point Standings for Eastern Class B, Medomak Valley (6-10, 44-5313 points) is 11th, while Gardiner (16-0, 146.3281 points) is first in the 19-team region. The top 13 teams qualify for the playoffs.
Winslow 3, Medomak Valley 2
At Winslow June 3, the Black Raiders scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning and walked off with their 12th victory. Medomak Valley scored twice in the fourth inning, while Winslow scored once in the third, fourth and seventh frames.
Leading the Panthers at the dish were Riley McCollett (double), Micah Williamson (stolen base), Ollie Brown (run), Tyler Emerson (double), Bryce Collamore (double, 2 RBIs) and Michael Wadsworth (single).
For Winslow, Taylor Roy (single, stolen base, run), Trevor Lovely (3 singles, stolen base, run, RBI), Ryan Dubois (single), Zachary Guptill (single, run), Alex Berard (double, single, RBI), Jacob Trask (single, stolen base), Ben Smith (single, stolen base) and Harrison Clark (single, RBI) paced the offense.
Williamson pitched for the Panthers, allowing 11 hits and four walks, with three strikeouts. Lovely and Trask pitched for the Black Raiders, allowing four hits and four walks, with eight strikeouts.
In the Maine Principals' Association Heal Point Standings for Eastern Class B, Medomak Valley (3-13, 12.1094 points) is 19th, while Hermon (12-4, 116.2109 points) is first in the 19-team region. The top 13 teams qualify for the playoffs.
