Panthers should be in team, individual postseason mix
Waldoboro — The following is a synopsis of the 2013 Medomak Valley High School cross-country teams:
Coach/years coached current team: George Gould, 28th year as girls coach and eighth as boys coach.
Last year's record/playoff information: The Panther boys finished seventh (166) at the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class B championships, seventh (184 points) at the Eastern Class B championships and 14th (320 points) at the state Class B championships. The Panther girls finished ninth (211) at the KVAC Class B championships and 10th (279 points) at the regional championship.
Roster: Seniors Shannon Robbins, Alexander Casas and Kenny Scheimreif; juniors Beth Corson and Gavin Felch; sophomores Abby Griffin, Krista Hooper, Rayanne Leach, Jazmine Ramos, Jill van der Schaaf, Daniel Bubar and Josh Delgado; and freshman Trent Grover.
Known graduation losses: Nick Anderson, Ivan Johnson, Abby Vail and Missy Philbrook.
Significant impact players: Felch, Casas, Bubar, van der Schaaf, Leach and Staples.
Team strengths: Both Panther squads have strong runners in the top three and both have experienced runners who have participated in conference, regional and state meets.
Team goals: For both teams is for top-three finishes at the KVAC Class B championships and to qualify for the state competition.
Top league opponents: Camden Hills, Waterville and Belfast.
Outlook: Gould feels the Panthers can contend and have strong showings at the KVAC meet, which could lead to more success as postseason meets wear on.
