Panthers continue to swing for first links victory
The Medomak Valley golf team has had a tough start to the 2012 season.
After graduating a wealth of talented players last season, the youthful Panthers have stumbled to an 0-5 start after their two most recent matches against Leavitt of Turner and Lincoln Academy of Newcastle.
The Panthers were blanked by the Hornets 9-0 Sept. 13 in Turner and fell to the Eagles of Newcastle 7-2 Sept. 11 in Rockland.
The following is a recap of Medomak Valley's last two matches:
Leavitt 9, Medomak Valley 0
At Turner Highlands Golf Club in Turner Sept. 13, the Hornets stung the visiting Panthers and prevailed with a shutout victory. Leavitt defeated Medomak Valley with a four-player, nine-hole stroke total of 179 to 230.
Hornet Mark Hite shot a 46 to earn medalist honors.
The individual results, with Medomak Valley players listed first, were: Adam Wilcox (58) lost to Hite (46); Tyler Emerson (58) lost to Ryan Gosselin (47); J.P. Lobley (59), Caleb Boulet (47); Alex Benner (57) lost to Bryan Hiscock (39); Aaron Smeltzer (57) lost to Justin Bean (52); and the Panthers forfeited to Alex Pinard (score unavailable).
Lincoln Academy 7, Medomak Valley 2
At the Rockland Golf Club Sept. 11, the Panthers could not keep up with the high-flying Eagles and fell in a home match. Lincoln Academy bested Medomak Valley with a four-player, nine-hole total of 187 to 216.
Lincoln Academy's Seward Matel shot a 34 to earn medalist honors.
The individual results, with Panthers listed first, were: Adam Wilcox (49) lost to Matel (34); J.P. Lobley (57) lost to Goran Johanson (39); Emerson (52) beat Luke Bibber (56); Aaron Smeltzer (58) beat Austin Armstrong (injury forfeit); Alex Benner (61) lost to Sam Zaidi (58); and Medomak Valley forfeited to John Potter (58).
