Panther jayvees see growth this fall
Waldoboro — The Medomak Valley High School boys varsity soccer team could have help on the way next season. That is because the Panther jayvees experienced a solid campaign in 2012.
Led by coach Paul Berube, the Panther junior varsity finished with a 3-6-4 record, scoring 15 goals, while allowing 16 scores.
"This was a great group to coach," said Berube. "I see many of them stepping up and contributing on the varsity level next season."
Team members included Sam Morrill, Jamie Temple, Tucker Prescott, Jackson Vail, Zach Starr, Patrick Madden, Jacob York, Nick DePatsy, Ollie Brown, Jared Mank, Makale Willis, Colton Spear, Noah Beck, Brandon McAuliffe, Ben Rawstron, Ben Turner, Nick York, Ezra Hinkley and Clarence Porter.
Scoring leaders for this season were Morrill (7 goals, 3 assists), Temple (3 goals), Prescott (2 goals), Vail (2 goals), Starr (goal, assist), Madden (2 assists) and York (assist).
Berube said the team "had many opportunities to increase our scoring but failed to capitalize on some great chances."
"With some timely scoring we could easily have had a winning record," said the coach.
Spear, Starr and Vail saw time in net for the Panthers, allowing a 1.23 goals-against average and combined for four shutouts.
The defense stepped up over the final six games, allowing only three goals, the coach said.
