Panther freshmen growl way to 15-win seasonPanthers come close to perfect campaign, lose to Camden Hills by one point
Waldoboro — The Medomak Valley High School boys freshmen basketball team had plenty of wins on the hardwood this season, with their lone loss coming by the slimmest of margins.
Led by coach Ryan McNelly, the Panthers worked their way to a 15-1 record, with the team's lone defeate being by one point to Midcoast-rival Camden Hills of Rockport.
Team members include Adam Eutsler, Casey Libby, Ryan Andrick, Kyle Donlin, Cale Gee, Zidane McMurrin, Cameron Robinson, Daniel Jones, Channing Soper, Isaac Eutsler, Nick Grover, Cam Martin, Richie Sproul and Patrick White.
The team averaged 54.4 points on the year and allowed 40.4 points per game.
“The freshman team lost four players to either jayvee or varsity from last year's Busline League championship team,” said McNelly. “This allowed athletes to blossom in new roles and/or positions on this year's team. This adjustment made this year a great learning and growth year for all the athletes.”
The teams wins included: 47-45 over Oceanside of Rockland/Thomaston, 59-33 over Belfast, 59-56 over Gardiner, 40-37 over Morse of Bath, 55-42 over Lincoln Academy of Newcastle, 56-40 over Maranacook of Readfield, 48-28 over Camden Hills, 50-25 over Leavitt of Turner, 61-43 over Lincoln Academy, 65-53 over Morse, 57-50 over Maranacook, 64-37 over Leavitt, 63-47 over Belfast, 53-50 over Oceanside and 49-42 over Gardiner. The team's lone defeat was a 50-49 decision to Camden Hills.
