Panther boys tie, girls fall to Hornets in Sept. 17 pitch play
The Medomak Valley boys and girls soccer teams squared off with Leavitt in a pair of Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class B high school pitch contests Tuesday, Sept. 17, with the Panther boys in Waldoboro and the Panther girls hitting the road to Turner to face the Hornets.
The Panther boys battled to a 2-2, double-overtime tie with the Hornets, while the Panther girls were nipped 2-1 at the end of regulation after leading for much of the contest.
The following is a recap of both games:
Medomak Valley 2, Leavitt 2 (2OT)
At Waldoboro Sept. 17, the Panthers and Hornets were deadlocked after 90 minutes and settled for a stalemate.
Zidane McMurrin and Maty Moore scored goals for the hosts, while Reilly Burgess and Derek Gosselin tallied goals for the visitors. McMurrin's goal was on a penalty kick.
McMurrin, a freshman, now has six goals on the season, five of which have been on penalty kicks.
Noah Beck made four saves on seven shots in goal for the Panthers, while Evan Parguette made seven saves on 11 shots in net for the Hornets.
In the Maine Principals' Association Heal Point Standings for Eastern Class B, Medomak Valley (1-2-1, 2.2321 points) is 11th, while Presque Isle (3-1-1, 18.9413 points) is first in the 19-team region. The top 13 teams qualify for the playoffs.
Leavitt 2, Medomak Valley 1
At Turner Sept. 17, the Panthers led for the majority of the game but gave up two goals in the final five minutes in a heartbreaking loss to the Hornets.
Taylor Mason scored 12 minutes into the game for Medomak Valley, while Shannon O'Malley and Taylor Benson scored goals for Leavitt, with Benson tallying the game-winner with 15 seconds remaining in regulation.
Nicole Obuchon had 12 saves in net for the Panthers, while Angela Daigle had 15 saves in goal for the Hornets.
