Packard guests at Barb Jackson Studio/Gallery
Rockport — Linda Packard is the guest artist for the month of July at the Barb Jackson Studio/Gallery, 22 Central St. in the village, between Shepherd's Pie and Salt Water Farm. Also showing are Barb Jackson, Liz Donald and Carol Latta. The public is invited to opening reception Thursday, July 10, from 4 to 6 p.m.
Elements of nature have always been the starting point for Packard’s work, created en plein air and in her Bangor studio. She is drawn to intimate views, she said, “because I enjoy the feeling of being inside the place or right on the edge. To me, this perspective accentuates the power and scale of the landscape.” Rich, juicy paint and the physical experience of painting interests her as much as her subjects, and she strives to work as intuitively as possible.
Packard holds a BA in Studio Art from Smith College with a concentration in drawing and printmaking. As a printmaker she had a strong interest in creating color with line and texture. Her interest in mark-making and texture continues today in her oils, with the addition of luminous painted color.
Packard teaches art workshops and serves on the Museum Advisory Council for the University of Maine Museum of Art. Her works are included in corporate and private collections throughout the United States. She is also represented by Courthouse Gallery Fine Art, Ellsworth.
