P.A.W.S. Animal Adoption Center and the Camden Hospital for Animals are hosting a low- cost rabies and nail-clipping clinic from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, May 24, at P.A.W.S.’ future home at 123 John St., Camden. Dogs must be on leashes and cats must be in carriers. Please bring proof of prior rabies vaccines if applicable. The cost for a rabies vaccine is $10 and the cost for a nail clipping is $10, and payment is by cash or check only. Proceeds benefit the care of the cats and dogs at the P.A.W.S. Animal Adoption Center. This clinic is made possible by volunteers, including the staff of the Camden Hospital for Animals.

Do you ever wonder how we’re able to talk about the sweet cats we highlight every week? We don’t have ready-made write-ups that we just attach a name and a picture to. On the contrary, our extraordinary staff knows these beautiful beasts very well, and it is their observations and their knowledge that inform this column every week. To our staff these are not just cats. They are each of them a distinct being with a personality and a set of behaviors all their own. And they are friends. If you’re looking for a special cat, stop by and let a staff person know what you have in mind. We guarantee that you’ll meet the cat of your dreams — and maybe even one or two that you hadn’t dreamed of! And even if you don’t have adoption in mind, pay us a visit and see the remarkable relationships between our staff and their charges. It’s truly a treat.

Chevy is ready and waiting for a fur-ever home. She and her five kittens are just back from a foster home, and she would love to find a home of her own. She is exceptionally sweet, playful and loving and she will make a great addition to any family lucky enough to adopt her.

Renee dreams of living in a peaceful, quiet home of her own. Sometimes the hustle and bustle of a busy environment like that at the shelter becomes too much for her and she’ll try to hide. But when things have settled down, this lovely little girl will be affectionate and playful.

We are just about bursting at the seams with kittens! Right now we have 23 gorgeous little fluff balls running around our kitten room and up to all kinds of antics — hoping someone will give them a home. With so many kittens we’re running very low on Purina Kitten Chow and would greatly appreciate it if you could donate a bag or two. When you stop by to drop off the food, make sure you take a peek into the kitten room. We guarantee you won’t want to leave without one of them.

Wish list: Purina Kitten Chow, small- to medium-sized dog collars, bleach and laundry detergent and gift cards to Walmart or Hannaford so we can buy supplies. Thank you as always for your help!

We’ve still got some showers and some dreary days, but we’ve got spring! At last. Sometimes it seemed as though we were fated to an eternal winter, but then the kittens started coming and spring came with them. Come by the shelter at 146 Camden St. to share in the fun. We’re open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday, our phone number is (207) 236-8702 and pawsadoption.org is never closed! And thank you, as always, for your caring and support.
