P.A.W.S: Meet Fred
Come with us back to May of this year to see a family struggling with the thought of having to give up their beloved dog, their children’s playmate and the family’s friend since he was a puppy. Imagine the heartache everyone feels knowing that they can’t find a place to live that will allow them to have their dog with them. They’ve tried everything, but with no success. Imagine the sadness of facing the fact that they will have to take their sweet friend-dog to a shelter. Don’t imagine — it is too painful — the drive to the shelter with the sure knowledge that they will never see their dog again. A last hug and the last kiss before he goes off to his new surroundings. Knowing that the shelter will find their dog a good home with new owners to love him eases the pain, just a little bit, but this decision was a very, very tough one to have to make.
Now fast forward to today and meet Fred, the dog whose previous family couldn’t take him with them when they moved. Fred has been waiting, longing, for someone to say those magic words, “Do you want to come home with me?” He has been waiting for five long months, and still no one has come. Why? Is it because he’s not a puppy but about four years old? Or perhaps because he is a pit mix? Why is this gentle, patient, mature and loving dog still here? He once lived with a family, and he would be so happy to have kids to call his own, to play with them and snuggle with them, to be a family dog again.
Fred will continue to wait here at P.A.W.S. until his someone special comes along. He’ll go on walks with the staff and play outside, but he’ll continue to wait until his fur-ever one comes his way.
Look at the pictures of this special guy. If you would like to know more about Fred or are interested in adopting him, please stop by and meet him. Take him for a walk, spend some time with him playing in the dog park. We guarantee you will want to take him home.
Check out our website for the pictures and stories of the dogs and cats waiting here for their fur-ever home.
Fall and the crunch of leaves underfoot. What could be better than taking a walk in this splendid weather? We have the answer: Take a shelter dog with you. It will be a wonderful experience for both of you.
