P.A.W.S. Animal Adoption Center invites dog owners to showcase their furry companions’ talents and charisma at the annual Camden Windjammer Festival Sea Dog Show in Camden’s Harbor Park on Sunday, Aug. 31.

Contestants will test their speed and agility in an obstacle course and strut their stuff against the backdrop of scenic Camden Harbor.

A panel of judges will award prizes courtesy of the Loyal Biscuit Company and Maine Dog in categories including tallest and shortest dogs, longest and shortest tails, largest and shortest ears, best nautical costume, best dog trick and most unusual name.

Registration begins at 10 a.m. and the Sea Dog Show begins at 11 a.m. The registration fee is a suggested donation of $5 to P.A.W.S. Animal Adoption Center.

Help needed

Ever wonder how the cats' rooms get to be so clean? Can you help for just one hour, one day a week? If you answered yes to both questions, P.A.W.S. would like to talk with you about helping them clean the cat rooms. The shelter can use some extra hands during its morning cleaning, and you can make a difference in the life of a shelter animal.

You will learn the ins and outs of keeping the cats happy and healthy in their cat rooms. And we guarantee you’ll get some petting time with the cats. Stop by and see what the fun is all about.

P.A.W.S. also needs bleach, canned cat food, cat toys, towels and paper towels.

Cats looking for homes

P.A.W.S. has several cats that need forever homes.

Darlene is a lovely cat who came to P.A.W.S. as a stray. She loves people, playing with cat toys and lounging in the sunshine. She is in a room with several cats, but she can be a wee bit bossy.

Edwina gets overlooked because she is a little shy. This beauty tends to forget that she does like people to scratch under her chin. She will need an owner who will give her time to adjust and come out of her shell.

The adoption fee for Darlene and Edwina, and for all our cats, is $10. (Please note that this does not include kittens.)

Please drop by and see all of P.A.W.S.' captivating creatures at 146 Camden St. in Rockport. The shelter is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. For more information, call 236-8702 or visit the website at pawsadoption.org.
