Other Bones, 14 Strings
Rockland — On Friday, Feb. 1, Rock City Cafe's Velvet Lounge will present 14 Strings, the jazz trio featuring Jon Luoma on viola, Harry Richter on guitar and Doreen Conboy on bass. The trio employs innovative arrangements and provocative rhythms give contemporary appeal to jazz standards, soulful ballads, Latin bossas and sambas plus a twist of Django Reinhardt and Svend Assmussen. To round out the set lists, Luoma adds original compositions. The music will run from 5 to 7 p.m. at Rock City Café, 316 Main St
On Saturday, Feb. 2, Rock City Cade's Velvet Lounge will present The Other Bones from 5 to 7 p.m. The Other Bones is a Portland-based trio featuring Andrew Mead on synth, guitar and production; Eric Bruce on guitar; and Loretta Allen on vocals and synth. The group embraces contemporary electronic production while featuring soulful vocals and powerful rock guitars to create a unique blend of sounds. While finding it difficult to draw comparisons to the band's sound, one reviewer commented that the band is "Adele meets The XX" while others have made comparisons to MGMT, Kimbra and Passion Pit.
