Belfast — There will be an open house for former Belfast Area High School field hockey coach Allen Holmes on Dec. 28 from 1 to 3 p.m. at The Shrine Club on Waldo Avenue.

Kristina Lane Prescott from the Maine Field Hockey Association will attend the event to recap Holmes' induction into that organization's hall of fame.

BAHS alumni, fans and community members are invited to attend and there will be a group photo at 2 p.m. for all alumni, as well as team photos with coach Holmes.

Holmes was inducted into the hall of fame on Dec. 8 at a luncheon at the Augusta Civic Center.

Holmes guided the Lions 40 years before stepping down at the conclusion of the 2012 season. Holmes is one of two Maine high school field hockey coaches to amass more than 400 career coaching wins, ending his varsity career with a 433-162-43 record (.728 winning percentage).

Belfast won five Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class B, 13 Eastern Class B and seven state Class B championships during Holmes' tenure.
