One-Room Schoolhouse Presentation

By Pamela G Kahora | Jul 10, 2014

Saturday, July 12 at 1:00 pm at the Hahn Community Center on Main Street in Friendship, Hannah Oram Condon (aka retired Friendship Village teacher, Mrs. Cindy Wallace) and role-playing scholars in period dress from Friendship Village School, will present a day in a one-room schoolhouse based on the Norlands District School in 1842 at Livermore, Maine.  Scholars will enter the classroom and "make their manners" and perform the morning exercises as they go through the basics of reading, writing and  'rithmetic.  Students will use materials of the time including slates and early readers.  This part of the program will be about 35 minutes in length.  Mrs. Wallace will discuss the red brick schoolhouse on Martin Point in Friendship and other one-room schoolhouses that were in Friendship circa 1850.
