One Lucky Couple to Win Onboard Wedding at Annual Camden Windjammer Festival.
CAMDEN MAINE: The Camden Windjammer Festival and the Schooner Mary Day are giving away a wedding aboard the schooner during the festival. Captain Barry King will perform the ceremony in scenic Camden Harbor. Wedding can be arranged on Saturday or Sunday September 1st or 2nd. A bridal veil has been donated by Maine Coast Weddings and Special Events, Seasons Downeast will provide a bride’s bouquet, and Marti Stone photography is offering free photography services. On Sunday evening the schooner will offer bed and breakfast aboard. The boat can accommodate up to 40 guests for the ceremony. This is a great opportunity for a wedding that will be remembered.
The wedding will be hosted by the Mary Day as part of her 50th anniversary celebrations. The first Maine windjammer built especially for passengers, the Schooner Mary Day was designed with comfort in mind. With just 28 passengers on board, her 90-foot deck length and 23-foot beam mean there’s plenty of space for everyone. The Mary Day was also designed with speed in mind. Recognized as an outstanding performer, she is a regular competitor in the annual Great Schooner Race. Her sleek hull allows her to clip along at ten knots or better. What’s more, her centerboard, easily hauled up in shallower waters, allows us to sneak into marvelous little anchorages that are off-limits to deep-draft keel boats.
To win the wedding, write a short letter to: Camden Windjammer Festival, PO Box 919, Camden, ME 04843 by July 15. Include your name and contact information as well as why you would like to get married on a schooner.
The Camden Windjammer Festival is a community-led celebration of Camden’s maritime heritage and living traditions. From the great age of sail when four, five, and even six-masted schooners were launched into Camden Harbor, through the birth of the windjammer business here in the 1930s and continuing with the elegant vessels that visit or call Camden home every summer, these incredible sailing ships have always defined this gorgeous community where the mountains meet the sea.
Over the course of the past two decades Camden’s annual windjammer celebration has become a wildly popular event for tourists as well as locals. The annual Camden Windjammer Festival is a celebration of Midcoast Windjammers and the living traditions of our maritime heritage that make today’s fleet such an integral part of coastal Maine life. Every year on Labor Day weekend, thousands of visitors from across the country and just across town gather along Camden’s wharfs and parks to explore the ships themselves, learn salty crafts and skills, and swap sea stories and songs in talent shows and concerts that appeal to landlubbers and maritime types alike.
