Oiva Liukkonen

Oiva Liukkonen, 89, of Biddeford passed away Thursday, July 5, 2012, at Southridge Living Center in Biddeford.

He was born in St. George on April 6, 1923, a son of Johannes and Ellen Hendrickson Liukkonen. He was educated from St. George High School.

Oiva served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was employed by Corenco Company for many years in Rockland and Portland. In 1974, he moved from Rockland to Saco.

He also worked at Fiber Materials in Biddeford for several years, retiring in 1980.

Oiva was a member of Masons Lodge in Rockland and Saco. He was a member of Shrine Cora Temple and a life member of the American Legion and VFW.

He enjoyed fishing and hunting.

Mr. Liukkonen was associated with Trinity Episcopal Church in Saco.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Barbara Rogers Liukkonen of Biddeford; one son, Gerald Liukkonen and his wife, Jean, of Sterling, Va.; one sister, Edith Thomas and her husband, Andrew, of South Portland; and one nephew, Joseph Thomas Jr.
