Odeon orchestras hold season auditions
Rockport — The Odeon Youth Orchestras will audition new and returning players Tuesday, Sept. 2, beginning 2 p.m. at the Bay Chamber Music School, 18 Central St. on the top floor.
The mission of the Odeon Ensemble Program is to offer musicians the opportunity to play in a variety of ensemble settings including full orchestra, chamber ensembles and as soloists; to develop the musical skills necessary for ensemble play; to foster connections between students in the program, both in and outside of rehearsals; and to perform orchestral and ensemble works in concert settings that are open to the public.
Students of middle- and high-school age are invited to audition. The Odeon Youth Orchestras are designed to provide concentrated musical training for students in an energetic and focused environment. Students rehearse weekly and perform celebrated orchestral works in ensembles led by outstanding teachers and conductors. Rehearsals are held every Tuesday, September through June. Odeon faculty members are Deirdre McClure, conductor; Gilda Joffe, strings and chamber music coach; and Nate Martin, strings and chamber music coach.
Current Odeon ensembles are: Odeon Allegro Ensemble for novice string players; Allegro Ensemble, exploring a wide variety of music and basic orchestral techniques; Odeon Symphony, for strings, winds, brass and percussion players with intermediate to advanced levels of technical ability; and the Odeon Adult Orchestra for strings, winds, brass and percussion players.
School-age musicians interested in auditioning should contact Joan Kulle at 236-2823 or email@example.com. No audition is necessary for the adult ensemble.
