Thomaston — The Oceanside girls lacrosse team is off to a sizzling start to the spring season — a trend that continued at Sam Pendleton Field on Wednesday afternoon, May 17 — as the Mariners hosted Lincoln Academy of Newcastle.

The Mariners, who have their sights on a top seed for the regional playoffs, picked up their fifth straight victory as they sailed to a 13-1 victory.

Leading the Mariner offense was Sierra Beal (3 goals, assist), Jillian Brooks (3 goals, assist), Emily Tyler (3 goals), Kristina Ferguson (goal, assist), Julia Barbour (goal) and Kelsey Brooks (assist).

Brinley Harrison scored the lone goal for the Eagles.

Elise Laslavic made seven saves in net for the Mariners. Emily Huber played in net for the Eagles.

Oceanside coach Angie Vachon said “Emily Tyler’s subtle offensive direction” and “Kristina Ferguson’s direct, strong and true feeds” were a few of several factors in Wednesday’s win.

“Our hedging midfield defense did well today, notably Sydney Hall’s quickness to the ball,” the coach said. “Our draw-circle players continue with their hard-working dominance and stick-to-it-ness. Taylor Hamlin did a great job today working with her defensive partners and I will be looking to our steadfast defense to aid the team in the latter games of the regular season and into the postseason competition to help the team continue on as far as we can.”

In the Maine Principals’ Association Heal Point Standings for Class B North, Oceanside (6-1, 35.5556 points) is third, while Morse of Bath (6-2, 56.3889 points) is first in the 13-team region. The top nine teams qualify for the playoffs.
