Oceanside prevails over Five Town in offensive 9-10 opener

Waldoboro — Runs were far from at a premium in the opening game of the District 2 Little League 9- and 10-year-old double-elimination softball tournament Thursday, July 10 at John Foster Field as Five Town and Oceanside opened the tournament with a bang.

Oceanside came away with a 19-18 win over Five Town and advances to face Medomak Valley on Saturday, July 12 at 11 a.m.

Five Town will face the loser of the Medomak Valley/Oceanside game in an elimination game Sunday, July 13 at 4:45 p.m., while the championship game is slated for Tuesday, July 15 at 5:30 p.m.

Team members for all three teams in the tournament are:

Five Town — Alyssa Bland, Clara Bragg, Jozie Brawn, Olivia Brown, Lili Clement, Hollie Hutchenson, Matalin Luce, Olivia Ogier and Kennedy Peterson. The team is coached by Mike Brown, Julie Brown and Chuck Brawn.

Oceanside — Alexa Barstow, Arianna Cloutier, Autumn Deabler, Katherine Freeman, Autumn Harvey, Lainie Hooper, Anna Kingsbury, Emily Knutsen, Grace Pratt, Sadie Street, Jessica Watkinson and Adrianna Whitamore. The team is managed by Becca Barstow.

Medomak Valley — Eliza Nelson, Stephanie Morse, Taylor Podrasky, Hannah Lee, Cameron Bains, Lucy Jameson, Zaniah Puchalski, Grace White, Gabriella Parker, Autumn Ripley, Madilyn Simmons and Baylee Stewart. The team is managed by Chris Jameson and coached by Carrie White and Stacy Simmons.

The following is a recap of Thursday's contest:

Oceanside 19, Five Town 18

At Waldoboro July 10, Oceanside narrowly prevailed over Five Town in a high-scoring affair. Oceanside scored one in the first inning, five in the second, five in the fourth, three in the fifth and four in the sixth, while Five Town scored three in the first, three in the second, two in the third, two in the fourth, five in the fifth and three in the sixth.

Leading Oceanside at the plate were Kingsbury (single, 4 runs, 7 stolen bases), Harvey (single, run, stolen base), Hooper (run, stolen base), Pratt (2 singles, 2 runs, stolen base), Watkinson (double, 3 singles, 4 runs, stolen base), Knutson (single, 3 runs, 2 stolen bases), Freeman (run, stolen base), Cloutier (run), Street (run) and Barstow (single, run, stolen base).

For Five Town, Brown (single, 3 runs), Hutcheson (3 singles, 4 runs), Clement (2 singles, run, stolen base), Ogier (double, single, stolen base, 2 runs), Bland (single, stolen base), Peterson (run), Luce (2 singles, run), Bragg (3 runs) and Brawn (3 runs) paced the offense.

Pratt, Watkinson and Street pitched for Oceanside, allowing nine hits and 22 walks, with seven strikeouts. Ogier pitched for Five Town, allowing 10 hits and 12 walks, with five strikeouts.
