Oceanside, Old Town semifinal playoff postponed to June 10

Rockland — The Oceanside and Old Town high school softball teams will get extra time to rest and prepare for their Eastern Class B semifinal playoff game thanks to Mother Nature dumping several inches of rain on the state in recent days.

The No. 3 Mariners (17-1 overall, including the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class B title), were scheduled to play the No. 2 Coyotes (16-1) on Saturday afternoon, June 8 at 4 p.m. in Old Town.

However, due to unplayable field conditions due to the recent heavy rains, that game has been moved to Monday afternoon, June 10 at 4 p.m. in Old Town.

That will mean a short turnaround for the survivor of that game because, for now, the Eastern Class B championship game is scheduled for Tuesday, June 11 at 7 p.m. in Brewer.

Oceanside's graduation also is scheduled that night so there may be conflicts for the seniors on the Mariner squad, something that will need to be worked out between the Maine Principals' Association, Oceanside officials, players and parents, if that scenario does, indeed, play out.
