Oceanside High School Students Enjoy the Outdoors Through Youthlinks After School Program
Sometimes the best way to ward off the winter blues is by getting out into the elements. For a few Oceanside High School students that’s exactly what they’ve been up to every Friday through the after school Youthlinks program, Winter Adventure Team. Students who participated hiked local hot spots like Merryspring, the face of Mount Battie in Camden, Beech Hill in Rockport, and the Breakwater in Rockland. Each week students bundled up and hit the trail, all the while learning important principles of Leave No Trace as well as proper group hiking etiquette. Youthlinks was fortunate to have Katie Schick of Lincolnville volunteer as a guide and co instructor along with Program Manager, Josie Gates. Schick currently attends Unity College and is working on completing a Bachelor of Science in Adventure-Based Environment Education. Through volunteering with Youthlinks she was able to complete a community service requirement for the semester. A new session of Winter Adventure Team starts Friday February 15th.
