Rockland — The Oceanside High School field hockey team has been chosen as the 2013 Maine Principals’ Association Class B Field Hockey Sportsmanship Award Winner.
The honor is bestowed on the squad by a vote of the other schools in Class B.
"[They] are all truly deserving of this honor," said Jim Leonard, Oceanside athletic director, in a message to the Mariner field hockey coaches, adding that he makes the announcement with "great pride."
The Mariners, led by veteran coach Joanna Hall, will receive the banner at the state Class B field hockey championship game on Saturday, Nov. 2 in Yarmouth.
"On behalf of the Oceanside athletic department, our sincerest congratulations to your team for this award," Leonard told the Mariner coaches.
