Oceanside doubles up Auburn Suburban in first state 10-11 gameMidcoast squad to face Scarborough July 30
Windham — The Oceanside Little League 10- and 11-year-old baseball all-star team came out swinging for the fences in the double-elimination state tournament Saturday, July 26 as the Midcoast youngsters showed early and often why they rattled off four straight wins to claim the District 2 championship roughly a week ago.
Facing District 5 champion Auburn Suburban, Oceanside rapped 17 hits as it doubled up the opposition 18-9 to advance to the next round.
Oceanside was slated to face District 6 champion Scarborough on Sunday, July 27, but that game was pushed to Wednesday, July 30 at 5:45 p.m. due to rain.
District 1 Bucksport, District 3 Brewer and District 4 Saco round out the six-team field.
Saco defeated Bucksport 11-1 Sunday, just beating the rain. Brewer and Auburn Suburban were to play an elimination game prior to the scheduled Oceanside and Scarborough game, but that contest was also rained out, pushing back the state tournament schedule.
Brewer and Auburn Suburban will play in an elimination game on Tuesday, July 29 at 5:45 p.m.
If Oceanside beats Scarborough, it will face Saco — with a berth in the state championship game on the line — on Friday, Aug.1 at 5:45 p.m., while if the locals lose, they will face Bucksport in an elimination game on Thursday, July 31, also at 5:45 p.m.
The state championship game is slated for Sunday, Aug. 3 at 1 p.m., with a second game slated to be played, if necessary, at 3:30 p.m.
