Oceanside, Camden Hills brave tough weather conditions for winsWickenden finishes as medalist for Windjammers; Mariners 3-0 on campaign
Despite soggy conditions, the Oceanside and Camden Hills golf teams proved to be road warriors on Sept. 4, braving tough weather elements and picking up a pair of early-season victories against conference opponents.
The Mariners, which toil in Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class A, bested Erskine Academy of South China 5.5 to 3.5 at Vassalboro, while the Windjammers, which play in KVAC Class B, defeated host Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield 7-2.
Oceanside 5.5, Erskine Academy 3.5
At the Natanis Golf Club in Vassalboro Sept. 4, the Mariners shot to a 3-0 record on the season, prevailing by a narrow margin over the host Eagles. Oceanside earned the victory with a four-golfer, nine-hole stroke total of 171 to 173. Oceanside won two individual matches to Erskine Academy's three and also forged a tie, but the Mariners earned three valuable points to pull ahead by virtue of a lower team stroke total.
Erskine Academy's Shawn Soucie shot 36 to earn medalist honors.
The individual results, with Mariners listed first, were: Nick Mazurek (38) lost to Soucie (36), 2-down; Reilly Flanagan (40) beat Ashley Chubbock (50), 5-3; Jordan Carter (41) beat Josh Bailey (47), 3-2; Zeke Hamlin (55) lost to Luke Atchison (41), 5-4; Anthony Dayboch (52) lost to Trevor Brown (49), 2-1; and Zach Bernard (52) tied Jesse Stacey (51).
Camden Hills 7, Maine Central Institute 2
At the J.W. Parks Golf Course in Pittsfield Sept. 4, the Windjammers made quick work of the host Huskies to earn their second win in three matches. Camden Hills earned the victory with a four-golfer, nine-hole stroke total of 165 to 173. The Windjammers prevailed in four of the six individual matches against the Eagles.

The individual results, with Windjammers listed first, were: Wickenden (38) beat Gavin Dugas (39); Drew Long (51) lost to Trevor Kitchin (49); Drew Holt (41) defeated Dylan Watrous (46); Julian Starbird (42) lost to Kael McCarthy (39); Teddy Laurita (52) defeated Nate Ticton (58); and Eddie Socker (44) beat Dan Stevens (81).
