Oceanside battles Gray-New Gloucester in scrimmageMariner players also honor memory of Laken Kyle Harrington
Rockland — As the Mariners continue to prepare for a high school football season in a new region against mostly unfamiliar opponents, Oceanside hosted Gray-New Gloucester Friday night, Aug. 30 on Wasgatt Field under the lights in a controlled preseason scrimmage.
These are images from that game.
For Friday's game, the Mariner players also sported tape on their helmets and areas of their arms that had the initials LKH in memory of Laken Kyle Harrington, a Medomak Valley High School freshman who died unexpectedly Aug. 21.
"Many of our kids knew Laken well and wanted to honor his memory in some way," said Oceanside athletic director Jim Leonard.
Oceanside is under the guidance of first-year coach Wes Drinkwater and a slew of assistant coaches, including veteran Archie Stalcup. The Mariners will play in Western Class B this fall after toiling in Eastern Class B last year.
