‘Nutcracker’ weekend in Camden
Camden — Atlantic Ballet Company will celebrate its 13th annual production of the beloved “Nutcracker,” directed by Michèle Cox, Friday through Sunday, Nov. 30 through Dec. 2. Performances will be Friday at 7:30 p.m.; and Saturday and Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Camden Opera House, Elm Street/Route 1.
Danced by both professionals and students of P2P Dance Center, this production has been a highlight of the Penobscot Bay Chamber of Commerce’s Christmas by the Sea weekend for many years. Two accomplished dancers from New York City will join ABC’s cast of more than 60 dancers. Karina Teran, who performs the role of the elegant Sugar Plum Fairy and the powerful Mouse Queen; and Richard Yé, who dances the roles of the Nutcracker Prince and Russian Trepak, will grace the Camden Opera House stage, dueling in the Battle of the Mice and Soldiers and partnering in the famous Grand Pas de Deux.
Spanish Chocolates, Chinese Tea, Arabian Coffee and a colorful array of flowers and petals all welcome young Clara into the Land of the Sweets, entertaining her with a variety of energetic dances. “Peppermint Candies” has been one of ABC’s most popular pieces in the second act. Lollipops, peppermint balls and candy canes all tempt young Clara’s taste buds as they frolic in their appropriately hued red and white costumes.
Tickets are $20, $14 for senior citizens and children younger that 12. Advance tickets are available at HAV II, Camden; Reading Corner, Rockland; Opera House Video, Belfast; Personal Book Shop, Thomaston; and at the door.
