The Waldoboro Recreation Department announced the following upcoming programs:

Waldoboro Youth Summer Recreation Program
The Waldoboro Youth Summer Recreation Program provides five weeks of structured activities and field trips for Waldoboro children entering first through sixth grade. The program runs Monday through Friday, July 9 to Aug. 10 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Miller School gymnasium. Registrations for non-resident children will be accepted on a space available basis. Program attendance is flexible, so families can go on vacations and still attend the remaining events when they return. Parents, legal guardians or designated representatives must sign children in and out each day. There are a maximum of 50 spots available each week. There are many activities and field trips planned for this year. Weekly swimming and hiking trips are planned in addition to other activities around the Midcoast community. Program cost is $25/week per child. (Non-residents $35). Scholarships are available (for Waldoboro citizens only) and may be arranged through the Recreation Department. Waldoboro Day Activities
Children’s games: for 12 and younger will begin at 9 a.m. June 16 and run until noon. Co-sponsored by MVHS. Prizes to all participants. Sprint Challenges: a series of 50- and 100-yard dashes in four divisions (age 8 and under, 9-12, 13-18, and 18+). Races begin at 11:30 a.m. on Glidden Street near the Waldo Theater Annex. The finish line will be adjacent to the Best Little Hair House. Prizes will be awarded to the race winners. Clam Hod Relay: involves three-person teams racing to fill small hods with beanbag clams after donning appropriate dress for clamming. The relay, which pays tribute to our very valuable clamming industry, will occur at the intersection of Main and Friendship/Jefferson streets and begins at 12:45 p.m. There will be three divisions: Elementary, Middle/High School and Adult. Prizes awarded to the winners. Teams should sign up at the information booth during the morning near the Sproul Block. Call the Recreation Department at 832-5369 for more information.

Funtown/Splashtown/Water Country Discount Tickets
The Waldoboro Recreation Department has received a fresh supply of discount tickets to Funtown/Splashtown USA (Saco) and Water Country (Portsmouth). Funtown/Splashtown combo passes for those 48 inches and taller are available for $27 each, a savings of $9. Water Country passes are available for $30 each, savings of $8! Passes are for those 48 inches and taller. All ticket sales are final. There are no refunds or exchanges. Tickets may be purchased via check or cash at the Recreation Department Office located at the Waldoboro Town Office. Discount tickets for the 2012 season are available through Sept. 1. Portland Seadogs — Discount Vouchers
The Recreation Department has partnered with the Maine Recreation & Parks Association and the Portland Sea Dogs to offer a Discount Flex ticket program. Family Packs are available for purchase at the Waldoboro Town Office and can be turned in at the Sea Dogs ticket office for general admission tickets to any game with the exception of July 3. Four-packs cost $22, a $6 total savings on adult tickets, five-packs cost $27, an $8 savings on adult tickets. Call the Recreation Department at 832-5369 for more information.

Waldoboro Summer Run For Fun!
Whether a seasoned runner or just a beginner, this program is for you! A weekly cross county challenge is being held for all ages. Participants will gather for weekly runs and the top five weekly finishers in each division will earn points toward a season total. Awards will be presented to the top five finishers in each age group (scoring 5,4,3,2,1) based on season results. The program runs on Wednesdays at 6 p.m. from June 27 to Aug. 29. There is a registration fee of $15, which includes program T-shirt for runners only. Participants will meet by the MVHS track and run on the Medomak Valley Nature Trail. This course has quickly become one of the state’s best as it weaves in and out of the forested area behind MMS and MVHS. Come see this great facility and enjoy a summer of running! Walkers are also encouraged to participate free of charge to experience the beauty of the course and enjoy some camaraderie. Age groups include: Sub Bantam (8 and under) - 2000m/1.24 miles, Bantam (9/10) and Midget (11+12) - 3000m/ 1.86 miles, Youth (13/14) - 4000m/2.48 miles, Intermediate (15/16) - 5000m/3.1 miles, Young Adults (17/18) and Post High School Adults (19/20) - 5000m/3.1 miles, Adults 21 and over (in five-year age groups) - 5000 m /3.1 miles.
