New paintings by Camden artist Marianne W. Smith will be on exhibit at Lord Camden Inn, located at 24 Main Street, in downtown Camden beginning Tuesday August 27th, with an artist reception from 5-7pm. The Gallery at Lord Camden Inn is open every day and Marianne’s work will be on display through the fall season.
Her new works include an extensive collection of original oil paintings featuring scenes from working Maine harbors, coastal Maine landscapes, portraits and still life paintings. Marianne works in her Camden studio on still life paintings as well as painting plein air coastal scenes.
Marianne’s traditional still life paintings embrace a classical master’s technique with contrasting values and color temperatures with a strong sense of reflective light. Her new works show an evolution in style to a freer and livelier brush stroke with images such as “Friendship Harbor” (oil 18x36), a scene of dingies at the dock.
In other works, Marianne strives to create paintings that show a sense of tranquility, serenity and a simpler way of life which she captures in her new paintings of Adirondack cottage chairs “Rest Awhile” (oil 15x18) and “Wicker Chair” (oil 16x18).
Lord Camden Inn invites you to meet the artist Marianne W. Smith Tuesday evening, August 27th from 5 to 7 for refreshments and viewing of the work she has created this past year. You may preview her current and past paintings at her website and blog at www.mwsmithgallery.com.
