New restaurant set to open in Union
Union — A new restaurant is having the finishing touches put on this week in preparation for its Monday, Dec. 16 opening in Union.
The Common House of Pizza — located next to The Badger Cafe & Pub in Union Common — will offer gourmet pizzas, Parmesan calzones, baked pasta dinners, along with hot and cold subs and wraps.
Peter and Stephanie Koutsikos of Lewiston are the restaurateurs. Peter has been in the restaurant business for more than 35 years, having owned and operated several establishments in Massachusetts and Maine. He originates from Greece.
Therefore, it is no surprise that a specialty on the menu is the spanakopita — a combination of spinach, feta, onion, and egg wrapped in filo dough — a Greek savory pastry.
The couple has been working on the remodel since August, transforming the more than 100-year-old building from what used to be many things including a coffee shop, video store, and a second-hand shop.
The eat-in or take-out establishment has 35 seats in its two-room enclosure, and will be open Mondays through Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. It will be closed Sundays.
