Rockland — London’s National Theatre’s NT Live season of play broadcasts continues with “People,” a new play by Alan Bennett, Thursday, March 21. A live transmission will take place at 3 p.m., with a rebroadcast at 7 p.m., at the Strand Theatre, 345 Main St. Note that the live show start time is an hour later than originally announced.

Award-winning writer Bennett is reunited with director Nicholas Hytner and Olivier Award-winning actress Frances de la Tour (“Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire,” “Hugo,” “Alice in Wonderland”), with whom he worked on “The History Boys” and “The Habit of Art.”

People spoil things; there are so many of them and the last thing one wants is them traipsing through one’s house. But with the park a jungle and a bath on the billiard table, what is one to do? Dorothy (de la Tour) wonders if an attic sale could be a solution.

Bennett is one of Britain’s most celebrated playwrights, and the much anticipated “People” is the sixth of his plays to have its premiere at the National Theatre. Following its original run at the National Theatre, “The History Boys” transferred to Broadway, winning the Tony Award for Best Play in 2006, and toured internationally before being turned into a film, again directed by Hytner and with a cast including de la Tour.

“People” also stars Linda Bassett (“Calendar Girls,” “The Hours”), Selina Cadell (“Doc Martin”), Nicholas le Prevost (“Cranford”) and Peter Egan (“Death at a Funeral”). Bennett and Hytner also collaborated on the award-winning play and film “The Madness of King George” and their last stage production, “The Habit of Art,” which was broadcast as part of National Theatre Live in 2010.

Tickets are $23, $15 for students; contact the Strand for group ticket pricing. For more information on all upcoming live concerts, films, HD broadcasts and events at the Strand, visit rocklandstrand.com; call 594-0070, Ext. 5; or send email to info@rocklandstrand.com.
