New interim superintendent to take RSU 13 helm July 1

Rockland — The Regional School Unit 13 board voted June 5 to hire another interim superintendent.

The board hired Leon Levesque, who was a longtime superintendent for the Lewiston school system. He will begin the job July 1 and will work for the district until a permanent replacement is hired, according to RSU 13 Interim Superintendent Michael Wilhelm.

Eight people have applied for the permanent job, but the search committee has yet to begin interviews.

Wilhelm, of Casco, began working for the district in mid-February, following the resignation of Superintendent Lew Collins. Wilhelm initially was hired to work until the end of May, but agreed to stay on the job until June 30. He is being paid $500 per day. Wilhelm said he is unsure of Levesque's pay.
