New coach Capetta ready to keep Windjammers competitive

Rockport — The following is a synopsis of the 2014 Camden Hills Regional High School boys tennis team:

Coach/years coached current team: Noah Capetta, first year.

Last year's record/playoff information: 8-4, No. 6 seed in Eastern Class B. The Windjammers were upset by No. 11 Washington Academy of East Machias 3-2 in a preliminary playoff.

Roster: Juniors Austin Pohlman, Josiah Simko, James Annis and Eric Blohm; sophomores Luke Burstein, Shawn Albertson, Alex Forcillo, Nick Tassoni and Josh Pitcairn; and freshmen Matt Morse, Josiah Krul and Colby Arau.

Known graduation losses: Mark Belley and Eddie Socker.

Significant impact player: Pohlman.

Team strength: Depth.

Team goal: Overall improvement.

Top league opponent: Oceanside of Rockland/Thomaston.

Outlook: The Windjammers return several key players from last year's team, notably Pohlman, who participated in the state singles tournament last season and likely will again take the squad's first singles slot. Camden Hills has a great deal of youth, sporting no seniors, though Capetta feels his squad has what it takes to be in the thick of things in Eastern Class B this season.

"Practices have been fun and productive so far and our team has good camaraderie and seems highly motivated, which makes my job easier and more enjoyable,” the coach said. “We've had a preseason tournament and a couple of scrimmages thus far in which we competed very well. The expectations are high for us both in terms of our ability to compete hard and to hold ourselves to a high level of sportsmanship.”
