Networking: Reaching Out at upcoming women's meeting
Camden — The Midcoast Chapter of the Maine Women’s Network invites members, guests, and the general public to its first meeting of the season on Wednesday, Oct. 3 at The White Hall Inn at 52 High St. in Camden from 5:15 to 7:30 p.m.
This year’s theme is Networking: Reaching Out with a full season of speakers and activities focused on making personal, professional, and community connections. Members, guests, and the general public are invited to enjoy dinner to be served while attending the meeting and learning from the special team of networkers who will facilitate this interactive meeting full of activities.
The Maine Women’s Network will host guest Beverly Scott who will teach guests how to find freedom and relieve one of their self-consciousness, especially when speaking to an audience. Scott knows first hand that, "Self-consciousness is a horrible tyrant," and she says. "I know from experience that it can paralyze and push people to avoid opportunities for growth." She struggled with self-consciousness throughout her childhood, through college and into adulthood. Blessedly, she learned the principles that underlie the natural and comfortable expression of ideas, and now enjoys unselfconscious living.
For more than 30 years, she has taught others to find their freedom and confidence. Her business, Free Your Talents, provides help for people who want to feel comfortable, relaxed and effective when presenting to an audience. In addition to her work as an instructor and presenter, Scott has performed onstage in various capacities - singing, dancing, acting - including the role of Peter Pan; "Everyone should get to fly at least once," she declares. "It's so happily unburdened."
"It's not too hard. It's not too scary. It's not too horrible. It's just a matter of seeing in a new way, getting thought off yourself, and caring enough for your subject and your audience to give freely and be who you are. You can do this. I can help you." Scott provides the tools to "be yourself while people are watching." Scott and her two school-aged children live in Camden, where she loves nothing more than helping people to get over themselves.
This meeting is sponsored by Midcoast member Kimberly Gallagher at Continuum Physical Therapy.
The cost, which includes full buffet and dessert, time for networking and the activities, is $22 for members and $30 for guests of members and/or non-members.
