Neil W. Rahkonen
Rockland — Neil W. Rahkonen, 60, died his family at his side, following a long illness, Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013.
Born in Rockland, April 16, 1953, he was the son of Tauno and Joan Kennison Rahkonen. He attended Rockland schools.
Neil worked first for the city of Rockland, and later with Port Clyde Canning Company, until the plants closing. He eventually worked with mail services in Rockland for more than 10 years, retiring due to his illness.
On April 16, 1976, Neil married Dolores "DeeDee" Davis in Rockland. Together they have made their home here for more than 37 years.
He was an avid New England Patriots fan. His family said he loved to ride his bicycle and could be seen cycling all over the city. Spending time with his grandchildren was one of his favorite pastimes. He had a gentle spirit and quite nature and never raised his voice. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Predeceased by his father; Neil is survived by his wife DeeDee of Rockland; his children Ashley Rahkonen and her boyfriend Kenny Dean of Rockland, Christopher Rahkonen and his wife Harmony of Belmont; his mother Joan Rahkonen of South Thomaston; his siblings, Donna Emery, Debra Rahkonen, Donald Rahkonen and his wife Cindy, all of Rockland, Dianne Rahkonen and her partner Wayne Thorndike, Scott Rahkonen and his companion Laurie Prey, all of South Thomaston, Kevin Rahkonen and his companion Jessie Hooper of Spruce Head; two grandchildren, Haili and Colton Rahkonen of Belmont; and many nieces and nephews.
At Neil’s request, no services will be held.
