Neighbor Touching Neighbor

By Richard McKusic, Sr. | Sep 06, 2012

It has been over 30 years since a good friend introduced me to a group called Faith At Work. It was a pivotal point of my faith journey; moving my beliefs from my head to my heart. People were there from all over New England, many different denominations, and backgrounds. There were several young people from the Maine Youth Center. Their lives were drastically changed that weekend through seeing  unconditional love as others shared their personal walk with God through the good times and the difficulties; that come to us all.

There are many good churches in our local area and a lot of people, at each, whose faith has made a difference in ways we may not have known. Many of them are your doctor, dentist, newspaper editor, policeman or undertaker.

That is why the first CIA Community Breakfast is being held . Once a month someone from a different church will be sharing their personal faith journey so we can learn from one another and grow community. Retired Sheriff Dan Davey, member of St. Bernards Parish, will share his story at 6am on Wednesday September 12. The breakfast will be held at Grace Bible Fellowship, but the door is open to anyone.

For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, abounding in riches for all who call on Him;- Romans 10:12

Oh, by the way, CIA stands for Christians In Action. No; not Christians Inaction; Christians IN Action.

The leader of that first conference; John Connor; passed away this week at 93. He had become a dear friend and mentor who touched and encouraged many lives through his love for Jesus Christ. A friend and I had gone up to visit him and his wife a year or so ago and he had baked us each a loaf of bread. His heart and home was always open to anyone in need. Rest In Peace, John. We love you. Seeing the beginning of the CIA breakfast can see him smiling down from Heaven.
