Narrow increase to Hope taxes
Hope — Hope residents will see a 5-cent increase per $1,000 of assessed property.
The Board of Selectmen set the tax rate at $12.90 at its July 10 meeting. The rate is up from $12.85. This means a person owning a $200,000 home would see a tax increase of $10 annually.
In total, townspeople will raise $2,888,499, which is an increase of $15,220 when compared to last year. Of that amount, $170,073 (up $4,041) will go to Knox County for services, $1,883,675 (up $12,883) to the Five Town Community School District and School Union 69 and $834,751 (down $1,704) for town services.
The town's total taxable valuation is $192,170,100, which has increased $2,519,600 from a year ago.
Bills should arrive in residents' mailboxes by the end of July. The first half of taxes are due Oct. 2 and the second-half on April 30, 2013. An interest rate of 7 percent will be assessed on taxes paid after those dates.
