NAGA Level 6 and 8 gymnasts solid in state competition

Level 6 group vaults to second, Level 8 beams in fourth

Old Town — North Atlantic Gymnastics Academy gymnasts competed in the USA Gymnastics Women’s Junior Olympic Maine State Championships for Levels 6-10 on Saturday, March 18. The event was hosted by the Old Town-Orono YMCA.

NAGA gymnasts competed in the Level 6 and 8 categories.

The Level 6 team consists of Charlotte Nelson of Lincolnville, Malaya Moores of Camden, Camden Contakos of Rockport, Haley Black of Rockland, Julia Peasley of Lincolnville and Elise Condon of Lincolnville

The Level 6 team placed second.

The Level 8 team consists of Whitney Dow of Waldoboro, Marta Denny of Rockport and Audrey Scott of Hope.

That group finished fourth.

The gymnasts competed on vault, balance beam, uneven parallel bars and floor exercise, with the combination of scores from those four creating their all-around totals and place.

The following are the highlights, provided by coaches, for NAGA gymnasts who competed in the one-day competition:

The individual NAGA results for each level were:

Level 6

Juniors ages 9-11

Nelson placed third all-around (33.25). She also finished third on vault (8.55) and bars (7.65).

Contakos placed fifth all-around (32.45). She also finished second on beam (8.875) and floor (8.85).

Senior 12-year-olds

Peasley placed third all-around (34.125). She also finished second on vault (9.25).

Condon placed sixth all-around (33.725). She also finished third on bars (8.225) and beam (8.85).

Moores placed seventh all-around (32.6).

Senior 13-and-older

Black placed fourth all-around (34.9). Black won the vault (9.15).

Level 8

Senior 14 year olds

Scott placed fifth all-around (30.6.75). She also was fifth on uneven bars (7.225) and floor (8.325).

Senior 17-and-older

Dow placed third all-around (32.525). She won the vault (8.35) and placed second on beam (8.5).

Denny placed fourth all-around (32.025). She also finished second on vault (8.15) and floor (8.55), as well as third on bars (7.75).
