MWPA launches short story competition
Portland — The Maine Writers & Publishers Alliance has launched the Summer Stories Short Story Competition, an exciting collaboration between Maine literary and visual artists.
In collaboration with Brunswick-based Shati Arts Publishing, MWPA is inviting Maine authors to write original short stories inspired by the paintings of Leslie Anderson. Winning submissions to the Summer Stories Short Story Competition will be published in a printed collection alongside Anderson’s paintings. Award-winning Maine author Ron Currie, Jr. will serve as the competition’s judge.
“There is a long history of mutual admiration and inspiration between literary and visual artists,” said MWPA executive director Joshua Bodwell. “We’ve been looking for ways to nurture collaborations between the two art form here in Maine, and this is our first of several upcoming projects based on the idea.”
With the competition now underway, story submissions are due March 1; winners will be notified May 15; and the book of winning stories will be released in the autumn of 2013. Full details on the competition can be found at mainewriters.org.
