MVHS jayvees muster one-win campaign
Waldoboro — The Medomak Valley High School girls junior varsity soccer team, guided by coach Scott Hastings, had a tough season on the pitch in 2012. However, the good news for the Panthers, as with any team, is there is room to improve.
Team members for the Panthers included Carly Strunk, Sophie Cohen, Kasandra Mank, Shyann Metcalf, Emily Wotton, Stephanie Hill, Brooke Creamer, Taylor Griffin, Gabrielle Ruano, Riley Arbour, Nicole Nicholls, Hannah Watmough, Haley Mank, Hannah Osier, Annebelle Bouchard, Olivia Ryan, Brianna Luce, Charity Hoch, Emylee Leary, Jasmin Ramos, Kayleigh Curtis, CeCe Luce, Miranda Belcher, Stacy Wadsworth and Vanessa Rancourt.
The Panthers finished with a 1-10-1 record, with their lone victory being a 2-0 win over Mount View of Thorndike. MVHS scored three goals on the year, those from Curtis, Metcalf and Ruano.
"Unfortunately, we didn't have the success we had hoped for in terms of wins this season," said Hastings. "While we struggled scoring goals, we worked on many skills and steadily improved throughout the year. With nine or 10 varsity players graduating this season, some from this jayvee team will need to step up big next year [to help the varsity squad]."
