Rockland — The students and faculty of contemporary music school Midcoast Music Academy invites the public to attend their free fall open mic night Thursday, Oct. 20, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Rock City Café, 316 Main St.

Midcoast Music Academy organizes open mic nights a few times throughout the year to allow its students an opportunity to showcase their talents, while also gaining the experience and confidence that comes from performing in front of an audience. In addition to supporting students by enjoying an evening of live music, MCMA open mic night also offers an opportunity to check out the musical talent of the school’s teaching staff.

Midcoast Music Academy, a community music school located right downtown, provides high quality music instruction to students of all ages, and skill levels, in a fun, relaxed and creative environment. Classes include individual and group lesson, camps and workshops, with specializations in rock, blues, and jazz. MCMA emphasizes access to music education, regardless of financial constraints; and combines the fundamentals of music — theory, notation and ear training — with a contemporary approach to learning.

The Fall Open Mic Night also serves as the official kick-off of MCMA’s annual scholarship fundraising campaign. MCMA is committed to helping students of all ages and skill levels unlock their creative potential and express themselves through music, regardless of their ability to pay. This year, MCMA hopes to raise $25,000, to support as many as 25 students in 2016 and 2017.
