MRC ready for eighth Community Day celebration Oct. 7Free event includes ice skating, tennis, dance, strength training, food, family fun
Rockport — The Midcoast Recreation Center, which includes a ice hockey rink, indoor tennis courts and a fitness studio, among other things, will celebrate its 12th year of operation with its eighth annual Community Day on Sunday, Oct. 7 from noon to 4 p.m.
MRC, a non-profit facility, will host the free event to showcase the family opportunities that exist at the facility, Christopher Bigelow, ice arena director and facilities manager.
The event will offer, new this year, dance workshops, family arts and crafts and presentations focusing on proper strength training and the importance of nutrition. Bigelow said special thanks go to David “Woody” Woodbury of Optimum Performance, Common Kids Childcare and Rockport Dance Conservatory for contributing the new activities to the event.
There also will be skating and tennis activities.
The day's schedule will include:
Noon to 1 p.m. — Open skating (skate rentals available at no cost).
Noon to 2 p.m. — Community barbecue, with hamburgers and hot dogs.
Noon to 4 p.m. — Open courts and tennis activities.
Noon to 4 p.m. — Family arts and crafts.
1 to 2 p.m. — Junior tennis clinic.
1:40 to 2:40 p.m. — Learn to skate.
1:45 to 2 p.m. — Proper strength training.
2 to 3 p.m. — Junior tennis clinic
3 to 4 p.m. — Learn to play hockey.
3:15 to 3:30 p.m. — Important nutrition in life.
