Rockport — On Saturday, Jan. 26, at 6:30 p.m., the first full moon of 2013, a Moonlight Cross-Country Ski Tour will take place at Aldermere Farm in Rockport.

A personal guide as well as the full moon and luminaria will guide the way along the groomed trails that run through the large open pastures at the farm as well as through some of the wooded areas. At the end of the trail, there will be a small bonfire, hot chocolate, and treats to enjoy. Previous experience on skis is recommended and participants should bring all their own gear, including a headlamp or flashlight for skiing through the darker wooded sections.

Reservations are required, so please call Aldermere Farm at 236-2739 or email asabaka@mcht.org. These tours are free to the public, but donations are appreciated. Volunteers are also needed to be guides or to bring some baked goods to share, so please call the farm if are able to help out. Meet at the main barn at 20 Russell Ave. at 6:30 p.m. and then everyone will hit the trail together shortly thereafter. Parking is along the roadside on Russell Avenue.

For those who cannot make the guided tours, Aldermere Farm’s trails are open to the general public during daylight hours. There are two access points to the ski trails. One is across the road from the Aldermere Farm sign near 20 Russell Ave., and the other is down the side road off of Russell Avenue, across from Calderwood Lane (look for the open gate through the cattle pen). In both locations, please park on the shoulder of Russell Avenue where the snow has been cleared.
