Mom, apple pie, baseball and the flag
Rockland — The Fischer Gallery, upstairs at 340 Main St., will get in the Independence Day spirit for its July 4 First Friday Art Walk opening reception with an exhibition of fine art photographic prints that feature American flag themes and subjects.
Also on exhibit will be an oil painting portrait of the sibling co-owners’ mother, Margaret Fischer Reichline, painted by her father Geza Fischer, for whom the gallery is named. In the holiday spirit, refreshments will include slices of locally made apple pie, as well as beverages.
This latest exhibition will show photographs by Rhonda Reichline Dubin, Neil Reichline and Andrew Reichline. Many of the pieces for sale will include flag themes, including Neil Reichline’s “The Dark Side of the Flag,” a fascinating reflection of the national colors in a glass-windowed New York City skyscraper. His large-sized archival pigment prints also commemorate our national pastime of baseball, highlighting pictures of Fenway Park, Wrigley Field and Dodger Stadium cascaded by fireworks. Rhonda Reichline Dubin’s artwork includes “Stripes and Boots,” an image of cowboy boots with a Stars and Stripes motif; and an American flag high on a pole with a San Francisco Giant flag flying second against a background of church steeples called “God and Country and Baseball.”
Many of the prints displayed in the show will simply emphasize our national colors of red, white and blue, such as Andrew Reichline popular “Bhopal Grosbeak,” which celebrates the vivid colors of the native Maine bird against a background of luscious white clouds and blue sky. “Peace Boat,” another merged-image piece, shows the local schooner Angelique, American flag aft, against a wall of Egyptian hieroglyphics featuring a row of ankhs, an internationally recognized peace symbol.
The Fischer Gallery’s regular hours are Fridays through Sundays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. or by appointment. The gallery will be open to 8 p.m. for the First Friday Art Walk reception. For questions or appointments, call 542-6791 or visit TheFischerGallery.com.
