Mix of media at Art Space
Rockland — Art Space Gallery, 342 Main St. (across from the Strand Theatre), welcomes all to an opening of work by four artists Friday, Sept. 7 from 5 to 8 p.m. Audrey Bechler, Jill Caldwell, Laurie Lofman Bellmore and Joan Wright will be featured in September’s AIR (Arts In Rockland) First Friday gallery walk.
Bechler believes that being an artist gives her a great appreciation of life and of the beauty of the earth. Her challenge is to communicate those feelings on a two-dimensional surface via oils and acrylics.
Caldwell’s layers of paint represent the passage of time. When painting, she taps into this non-verbal expression by the layering of material, the texture, the revealing and editing of her work.
Bellmore works in dichroic glass, fine silver, copper and bronze to create one-of-a-kind jewelry. With the use of reclaimed PMC metal, Leer work offers a “green” jewelry option. She also is showing bucolic watercolors and photographs.
Wright has been taking photographs for 30 years. She rarely is interested in manipulating the images she captures, but instead wants viewers to see what has been in front of them the whole time. Water hold a particular fascination for the artist.
Also on view will be work by other artists of the 19-member gallery cooperative. Regular hours in September will be Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; and Sundays from 1 to 6 p.m.
