Miller family to take over Landings restaurant on waterfront
Rockland — Kate and Mike Miller of Bricks Restaurant in Rockland signed a lease Tuesday, Jan. 29, to operate a new restaurant out of the former Landings building on Rockland's waterfront.
The former Landings Restaurant at 1 Commercial St. closed in late November, having been leased by former operators Dwayne and Jeanette Knowlton. The property and the marina are owned by Kevin Taylor of Rockport.
Kate Miller said the couple plans to re-open the restaurant in mid-April and have it ready for the busy tourist season. She and Mike will continue to run Bricks Restaurant in Rockland as well.
The new Landings is expected to employ as many as 30 people in the area and will offer steaks and seafood on the menu. Miller said her son, Max Miller, a chef trained at the New England Culinary Institute in Vermont, will run the kitchen. Daughter Molly Miller Staples is also coming home to help run the restaurant.
The building has been renovated with new floors and new carpets. Miller said it looks "magnificent."
"We are so incredibly excited," Miller said. "After losing Grapes to fire, this is our chance to recoup some of what was lost."
The Millers previously owned Grapes Restaurant in the former Black Pearl building on the harbor. That burned down Dec. 24, 2004, due to arson. They opened Bricks in 2005 at 266 Main St. across from Harbor Park. True to its name, Bricks is known for brick-oven pizza and also offers seafood and other items.

GOOD LUCK !!!! Millers , I am sure if you manage your new endeavor as well as bricks you will be successful .WE love your food and prices at bricks. Please consider a dance floor in the future at landings. Rockland needs more choices for dancing instead of postage size dance floors.
