What should I be looking for in a Sheriff for Knox County?
Time spent in the Military, eight years is about right, How about someone who was an actual Police Officer? Mike Phillips has that covered too with 6 years as a police officer in Missouri.Add to that a 2 year stint as a guard at the Maine State Prison.
"My highest priority is 24-hour sheriff's department coverage of the county," said Mike Phillips, the Independent candidate for Knox County Sheriff. He is referring to shifts that have not always been filled by Knox County deputies.
Phillips would also end patrol-sharing with the Maine State Police, a policy he said creates confusion and spotty coverage and increases public risk.
"When you have someone breaking into your house, you want someone there fast," said Phillips, citing an instance when he was put on hold and transferred to the Maine State Police when he dialed 911.
"This is a calling for me," said Phillips, who sees the job as one of community service.
If elected, Phillips said he will stress community policing and have an open-door policy with the communities.
Phillips grew up in the Midcoast, then went on to serve for eight years in the military police for the U.S. Army and six years as a patrolman for the city of Rolla, Missouri. Rolla, a city of 18,000, has 30 officers on duty, according to the police chief, who said Phillips was in charge of the canines.
While in the military, Phillips managed the budget for the military arms-room, which was used by 180 soldiers. He managed the canine budget for the Rolla Police Department.
Mike Phillips is the best choice for Knox County Sheriff,
