Midcoast work at River Arts
Damariscotta — The public is invited to the opening reception for “Playing Around: Art of the Imagination,” a juried group exhibition, Friday, March 2 from 5 to 7 p.m. at River Arts, 170 Main St./Business Route 1.
Participating artists submitted works with a flair for the innovative, adventurous and distinctive. There are 96 works on exhibit, by 46 artists from Belfast to Portland. The exhibition contains several 3D sculptures in a variety of media and assemblages, making for a fun show for art lovers of all ages.
Kerstin Engman, the juror for “Playing Around,” exhibits at the Arden Gallery, Boston, and the Courthouse Gallery, Ellsworth, among other venues. She received her master of fine arts degree from the University of Pennsylvania, where she studied with Neil Deliver; and her bachelor's from Maine College of Art, with additional study at Rhode Island School of Design. She currently is on the faculty of University of Maine.
Midcoast artists with work in the show are Sandi Cirillo of Belfast; Petrea Noyes of Brooks; William Amidon, Dan Daly and Joan Siem of Camden; Elaine Niemi of Friendship; Richard Whittier of Liberty; Jeanette Phillips, Gwen Sylvester and Jill and Marcel Valliere of Rockland; Laura Freeman of Rockport; Katherine Cartwright and Luise Van Keuren of Spruce Head; Hannah Nelsbach and Marylin Quint-Rose of Tenants Harbor; Peter Lehman of Thomaston; Dorothy Hughes of Union; Richard Horton and Judith Mitchell of Waldoboro; and Lois Hill of Washington.
“Playing Around: Art of the Imagination” will run through March 29, followed by the annual Lincoln Academy Student Exhibition.
