Midcoast runners hold own in talent-laden KVAC championship races

Camden Hills' Trapani, Love-Webb, Stockman top 10, Windjammer teams top three

Augusta — Five-hundred and 35 high school runners — nearly 70 of them with Midcoast ties — competed in Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class A and B varsity and junior varsity championship races on Saturday, Oct. 15 at Cony High School

The highlights for the area runners from Camden Hills of Rockport, Medomak Valley of Waldoboro, Oceanside of Rockland/Thomaston and Belfast were three Windjammers who finished among the top 10 in the varsity races across the 3.1-mile courses.

For Class B boys, Waterville's Nicholas Dall finished first for the 80 runners at 17:14.5, while Camden Hills' Caleb Love-Webb was the top local runner in fourth at 18:19.5.

For Class B girls, Maranacook's Molly McGrail finished first at 20:40.0 among the 63 runners, as she outdistanced runner-up Emma Trapani of Camden Hills, who finished second in 20:46.

The Class B boys team scores were: Lincoln Academy of Newcastle 38, Maranacook of Readfield 87, Camden Hills 103, Waterville 111, Erskine Academy of South China 132, Leavitt of Turner 163, Belfast 165, Morse of Bath 170, Medomak Valley 227, Winslow 260 and Oceanside 319.

The Class B girls team scores were Maranacook 45, Camden Hills 63, Morse 76, Waterville 77, Lincoln Academy 102, Leavitt 143 and Oceanside and Medomak Valley among those with no score.

In Class A, Mount Blue's Tucker Barber finished first in the boys race in 16:43.1 among the 87 runners. Mount Blue finished first at 74 and Hampden Academy second at 88. Mount Ararat's Katherine Leckbee finished first in the girls race at 19:44.2 among 85 runners. Brunswick finished first at 74, with Mount Blue second at 89.

The individual Midcoast girls jayvee results (59 overall Class A and B runners) were: 15, MiAe DeWaard, CH, 26:28.0; 19, Natalie Owre, CH, 26:50.6; 21, Arami Britos, CH, 27:00.6; 23, Katherine Dailey, CH, 27:24.7; and 35, Sadie Cameron, CH, 28:32.8. Camden Hills' Hope Bifulco also participated.

The girls jayvee team scores were: Mount Ararat of Topsham 28, Hampden Academy 50, Maranacook 80, Camden Hills 93, Bangor 116 and Mount Blue of Farmington 130.
