The eight to 14 inches of light fluffy snow turned heavy and treacherous when the freezing rain mixed in with it in Rockland Dec. 15. Most of the vehicles braving the roads were plows and taxis.

Blowing and drifting snow is what hit the Midcoast area Dec. 15. This is one of the piles swept up by a plow near Jensen's Pharmacy in Rockland. (Photo by: Beth A. Birmingham)
