Midcoast Lens: Lobster boat races
Rockland — Saturday, June 16, a crowd amassed on boats and the Breakwater to watch the annual lobster boat races. The Rockland races were the second of the weekend and season, which runs through the summer at varying locations.
Lobster boats were divided by length, engine size and fuel as they raced alongside the Breakwater. Classes ranged from boats less than 16-feet in length to 40-feet and larger. Wooden boats competed as well.
Spectators and racers basked in the sun as boats whizzed past, each vying for the title of fastest lobster boat. Water balloons flew between boats and a few spectators even jumped into the ocean for a swim.
