Rockland — The schooner Olad made its first trip of the season on May 3, sailing from Rockland to Camden Harbor.

Capt. Aaron Lincoln and his crew brought friends and family members on the coastal jaunt, reaching the mooring in Camden where the Olad will spend the summer, taking passengers on day sails and charter trips.

The Olad had spent the winter at the Knight Marine boatyard near the Rockland ferry terminal, and crew members had spent the off season performing restorative work to the boat, preparing it for the Wednesday outing.

Despite passing rain clouds, the sun shone for the duration of the trip, and the boat offered exhilarating views of lighthouses and a perspective of the Maine coast that can only be seen from the ocean. The restored classic yacht is celebrating its 90th birthday this year, the past 13 of which Lincoln has served as the owner and operator of the Olad.
